Maresca: We Didn't Deserve to Lose, We Created Plenty of Chances

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca believes his side did not deserve to lose 2-1 away to Aston Villa. The defeat, which marks a fourth consecutive loss for the Cityzens at Villa Park, brought an end to City's 100% start to the Premier League season. Maresca insisted his team created enough opportunities but lacked a clinical edge, being punished for just two lapses that led to Nicolas Jackson's goals.

"Overall, our performance was good. We created a lot of chances. In the second half, our only slip was allowing the counter-attack that led to their second goal. Sometimes you need to defend better or get a bit of luck in those transition moments, but that's football. We learn from it and move on."

"We could have avoided both goals. Sometimes you need a bit more luck because we only gave away those two chances, while creating plenty of our own. We spent most of the game in their penalty area, but you have to be clinical and avoid making mistakes like the ones that led to the goals we conceded."

"I don't think we deserved to lose today, but we did. There are always lessons to be learned, and there are certainly things we could have done better," Maresca stated.
