Maresca: Too Many Goals, I Prefer 1-0

Manchester City remains the only team with a perfect record in the Premier League after the Citizens secured a thrilling 5-3 victory over Sunderland at the Etihad. Home manager Enzo Maresca was pleased with the three points but less so with the number of goals his team conceded.

"Too many goals, far too many goals. I much prefer a 1-0 win. Yes, of course, there are positives, and Jeremy Doku is back. When he was on the pitch, our play flowed very well. Nico O'Reilly also had a great opportunity while he was playing. Overall, I'm happy with both the result and the players' performance.

I expected a very tough match. I knew how good they are – they're aggressive when out of possession, and when they have the ball, they possess various weapons: set pieces, Brobbey… I know it was a difficult game, but I'm glad we found a way to win. Two of the three goals we conceded came too easily. We also allowed other dangerous situations, but then again, we scored five goals and could have probably added another two or three.

Undoubtedly, it's better to have three points more than less. But at the same time, we know it's quite early in the season," Maresca stated after the match.
