Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is set to be one of the team's captains for the 2026/27 season, according to City manager Enzo Maresca. The Italian's statement comes as a slight surprise, given that he himself had stated just ten days prior that he did not want Haaland to be captain.
"Ruben Dias and Erling are the current captains. I want to wait until the end of the transfer window to choose the other two," Maresca said.
Bernardo Silva, Manchester City's previous captain, left the club this summer for Real Madrid. The 26-year-old Haaland has been with Manchester City since July 2022. His contract with the club runs until the summer of 2034. With the team, the Norwegian has won the Champions League, two English league titles, two FA Cups, and also lifted the League Cup and the Premier League. Manchester City faces Arsenal today in the Community Shield match.
