Marco Bezzecchi topped the charts at the end of the 60-minute official practice session ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix, setting a new absolute track record at MotorLand Aragon.
In the closing minutes of the session, the Aprilia rider clocked a lap of 1:45.455 to take the lead, shaving 0.249 seconds off the old record for the Spanish circuit. Alex Marquez finished a mere 0.010 seconds behind Bezzecchi, while his brother Marc secured third place, 0.038 seconds adrift.
These three riders were the only ones to dip below the previous MotorLand Aragon record, which Marc Marquez set during last year's qualifying. The most successful rider in Aragon Grand Prix history claimed pole position with a time of 1:45.704 on that occasion.
Behind Bezzecchi and the Marquez brothers, Fabio Di Giannantonio claimed fourth position, with Fermín Aldeguer rounding out the top five. Raúl Fernández, winner of the last race in Great Britain, finished sixth, ahead of championship leader Jorge Martín, Pedro Acosta, Franco Morbidelli, and Johann Zarco, who completed the top 10 and secured direct entry into the second phase of tomorrow's qualifying.
Diogo Moreira was the first rider to miss out, trailing his LCR Honda teammate Zarco by just 0.010 seconds. He will now have to navigate the initial 15-minute Q1 session for pole position. Joining the Brazilian rookie in Q1 will be Luca Marini, Francesco Bagnaia, Fabio Quartararo, Joan Mir, Alex Rins, Enea Bastianini, Brad Binder, Jack Miller, Pol Espargaro, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, and Lorenzo Savadori.
The Aragon Grand Prix weekend continues tomorrow at 11:10 AM Bulgarian time with a 30-minute second free practice session. Immediately following its conclusion, at 11:50 AM, qualifying will commence, determining the starting grid for both the sprint race and the main event at MotorLand Aragon.
