March 9 polls: Police pledge peaceful election in Kano

Election By Ramatu Garba Kano, March 8, 2019 (NAN) The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of crisis-free Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state on March 9.

The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Wakili, gave the assurance while briefing newsmen in Kano on Friday.

He said that the command has put in place all adequate security measures to ensure that the election is hitch-free.

Wakili appealed to the people to conduct themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner during the exercise.

He called on parents and religious leaders to warn the public to avoid acts capable of breaching the peace in the state.

The Commissioner advised the public, especially the youth, to resist being used to perpetrate trouble, adding that anyone who flout the law would be punished.

No one is above the law, I am ready to sacrifice whatever it takes for peace to reign before, during and after election in the state. We will not allow anybody to break the law and go free, he said.

Wakili appealed to the people of the state to abide by the law and turn out peacefully to vote and cooperate with the police.

There is restriction of movement from 6a.m to 6p.m. You are only allowed to move within your locality where you registered to vote, anybody caught violating the restriction order would be arrested and prosecuted, he said.

The Commissioner also warned all security agencies against partisanship, adding that anyone found wanting would be dealt with.
