The 29-year-old Tielemans has joined Manchester United after the Red Devils activated a €41 million release clause in his previous contract with Aston Villa, which was set to run until 2028.
Tielemans captained the national team at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. He helped Belgium reach the quarter-finals of the tournament. However, he missed the match against Spain (1-2) due to health issues, later confirmed to be a hamstring strain suffered during the warm-up.
He became the Old Trafford club's priority after the agreed-upon transfer of Brazilian Ederson from Atalanta Bergamo fell through. Tielemans is expected to help fill the void in midfield following the departure of veteran Casemiro.
Tielemans wore the Aston Villa jersey since the summer of 2023. He played a total of 134 competitive matches for the Birmingham-based team, scoring 10 goals. Last season, he helped them secure a Europa League trophy and a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.
