Italian striker, Luca Toni is reportedly owing a German church the whooping sum of €1.7m (N368m) IN religios tax.
The former Bayern Munich striker is said to have acquired the debt while playing in Germany from 2007 to 2010.
The Kirchensteuer rule finances religions via taxes in Germany, which in Bavaria is eight per cent of their income.
According to the reports, Luca Toni’s accountant initially registered him as ‘atheist,’ but then changed it to Catholic after he left the club.
The German Catholic Church is therefore claiming €500,000 per year debt, totalling €1.5m, which has gained a further €200,000 interest.
The tribunal proposed a plea bargain with Toni paying €500,000, his accountant matching that sum and Bayern Munich paying €700,000.
Bayern Munich however refused and the case has been set for trial.
