After Losing To Germany, Argentina Looks To Russia 2018
Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero was in nomination for the Golden Gloves award before the 120 minutes which ended his record 486 minutes clean sheet, making him the third goalkeeper to keep the longest clean sheet at the World Cup behind for Italy’s Walter Zenga (571 minutes) and Peter Shilton record of 499 minutes.
Romero did not win the goalkeeper award, so also did he not win the World Cup and the AC Sampdoria goalkeeper says though they did not win, they are proud of their performance and would go back home with their head held high.
After Gotze scored, the Argentines appeared to be in search of an equaliser with the last chance falling to them just at the stroke of added time at the end of the second extra period, Romero was sent the wrong way Gotze’s goal; he added, praising his team:
Romero was not favoured to be in the Argentine team but Sabella's confidence in him guaranteed him the first position in goals for the Albercelestes, with his enigmatic performance, he has silenced his critics.
