Loathe Colour Black? Port to Abercrombie & Fitch as Leading Clothier Bans Black From its Brand

American apparel retailers Abercrombie & Fitch apparently hate the colour black so much so that they banned it from their line. The retailers who confirmed the ban have also been known to discourage their corporate employers from wearing black in the Columbus, Ohio office headquarters.

In a statement released by the company, they explained that  Abercrombie & Fitch is a casual lifestyle brand and black is more appropriate for formal wear like tuxedos.

Abercrombie & Fitch is known for its somewhat controversial stand in fashion. Earlier in the year there was an uproar over their decision to exclude XL and XXL sizes from their line and currently the largest women's pant size is 10. Defending the move then, company CEO Michael Jefferies explained the stand with this remark:

“In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids, candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely."

So what do you think? Should a clothing label exclude a colour from its line because it doesn't fit with its brand image?
