Marseille, one of Levski's opponents in the Europa League, will need to offload players before the transfer window closes to balance their budget. This was confirmed by the club's sporting director, Gregory Lorenzi, following today's draw in Monaco.
The French club might part ways with one of their key players, Igor Paixão, who was signed from Feyenoord last year. The Brazilian could potentially join another team set to face Levski in the Europa League – Sunderland. The Black Cats have expressed interest in him and are currently in negotiations with Marseille.
“We want to keep our best players, and Igor is an important player for Marseille. This doesn't mean he will leave. There are still a few days left until the transfer window closes, and many things can happen. There is interest in him. We want to have a strong team, but there are financial constraints, which means we have to find a solution, and that's not easy,” Lorenzi stated.
“I don't know if people understand the situation and the problem we are facing. Even if we sell a player, we won't be able to register new players. We will have to let go of several individuals to make room for one new signing. Letting Igor go would be difficult because we might not be able to replace him,” he added.
