"Les Bleus" Miss Out on Emulating Germany and Brazil's World Cup Final Streak

France's bid for a third consecutive World Cup final appearance fell short, denying them the chance to equal the records held by Brazil and Germany.

Didier Deschamps' squad suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup semi-final. This marks the first time since 2014 that "Les Bleus" have failed to reach the tournament's championship match.

Consequently, the French team was unable to replicate the achievements of West Germany, who played in the finals of 1982, 1986, and 1990, or Brazil, who reached the final match in 1994, 1998, and 2002.

France famously lifted the World Cup trophy in 2018, but were defeated by Argentina in the 2022 final.
