Lerone Murphy not only lost a hard-fought bout last weekend but will also be sidelined from the octagon for some time.
On Saturday, Murphy suffered a defeat in the main event of UFC London, losing a split decision to Movsar Evloev in an incredibly close contest. Immediately after the fight, Murphy mentioned feeling a “pop in his hip” during the match, and now the exact nature of the injury has been revealed.
On Monday, the fighter posted on his Instagram, disclosing that he tore his hip flexor muscle in the fourth round of his bout with Evloev. The severity of the injury and Murphy's exact recovery timeline are still unclear. According to the American Hip Institute, most such injuries resolve within a few weeks.
For now, Murphy will have to rest, and “The Miracle” has used some of his newfound free time to rewatch his fight with Evloev. While he gives credit to his opponent, after reviewing the footage, Murphy believes he should have either won or the fight should have been a draw. In any case, he promises a strong comeback once he recovers.
“I enjoyed every second of the fight. I thought I did enough to take the first three rounds, even though it was close. At the very least, it should have been a draw due to the point deduction, but we move forward. Movsar fought smart and didn't give me many opportunities. I could have created a bit more chaos. I hope we can do it again at some point. I WILL BE BACK WITH A VENGEANCE.”
