All-time highest goal scorer for the American national team, Landon Donovan will not take part in the Brazil 2014 World Cup as he could not make it pass the 30 Man list of coach Jurgen Klinsmann. The 32 year-old former captain had hoped that Klinsmann would enlist him to Brazil for his fourth World Cup appearance.

The 23 Man list of the German coach became something of surprise especially to the American football community who could not see the reason behind the exclusion of the Los Angeles Galaxy star player with the inclusion of Jozy Altidore who only managed an unimpressive poor season with Sunderland in the Premiership.

Donovan who has 57 goals to his 156 appearances in the colours of USA is however, placed on Klinsmann's standby list alongside six other players who were also dropped.

Klinsmann said "It's an exciting moment when you have narrowed the roster down as a coaching staff, and these 23 players that you've chosen can focus now purely on Brazil, We can go into more specific things about technical approaches, and about the opponents.

"For the players, it's very important to know that they are now part of it and they can relax and know they are on the list going to Brazil and taking it from there. After almost ten days of work right now, we thought the point has come to make the decision." The coach added.
