The 2013/2014 La Liga season has come and gone; for some it was cheers while it was pains for the other which resulted in the sack of coach Tata Martino.

Athletico Madrid lifted the La Liga trophy to the shock of Barcelona on the last day with a surprising 1-all draw at the NouCamp on the last  day of the league. Real Madrid didn't have it all disappointing when they won the Copa Del Rey. But for Barcelona, it was a season of woes and wailings that saw Tata Martino out of the Catalan club. It was the first time Barcelona would end a season without any silverware.

Copa Del Rey and La Liga Champions today slug it out in the UEFA Champions League Final for the most prestigious title in European football. These two team have met severally in the just concluded season, the battle for who is the best team in La Liga this season does not end with who has the most wins or losses.

Besides winning the La Liga, Athletico also dominated the La Liga first XI team with 7 of their players making it to the list; Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, Defenders Filipe Luis, Godin and Juanfran; Midfielders Gabi and Koke were all listed in the La Liga XI  with Striker Diego Costa rounding up the list for Athletico Madrid. Real Madrid is represented in Christiano Ronaldo, Athletic Bilbao's two players Laporte and Iturraspe are the other players while Sevilla's Rakitic makes up the list.

Former champions Barcelona was not represented as none of its palyers played well enough for inclusion into the LIGA BBVA XI team.
