Klay Thompson, one of the greatest three-point shooters in NBA history, is set to leave the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN. The veteran guard has reportedly reached an agreement with the club to buy out his contract, paving the way for him to sign with the Miami Heat, who are expected to be a strong contender for the championship next season.

The 36-year-old Thompson spent the first 13 seasons of his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors, winning four championships. However, in 2024, he opted to join Dallas with the intention of playing alongside Slovenian superstar Luka Dončić. Just over six months later, Dončić was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, and Thompson immediately expressed his desire to leave the team.

Now, he has been granted that opportunity and will be able to sign with the Miami Heat, a team desperately in need of elite long-range shooters.

Thompson boasts a career three-point shooting percentage of 41% and averages 18.6 points per game.
