Rapper sued over charges of ripping off Bill Withers "Don't You Want To Stay"
News reports have revealed that
The company, Mattie Music Group is reportedly suing Kendrick over charges that “I Do This” is an almost exact replica of “Don’t You Want to Stay,” to the point that it “consists of nothing more than new rap and hip hop lyrics set to the existing music of ‘Don’t You Want To Stay.'”
MMG adds that the current liner notes for Overly Dedicated, which is the mixtape with “I Do This” remix on it, is yet to list any sample for the track, which seems to be the bone of contention.
This suit comes the same week it was reported that Lil Wayne had remixed Withers "Lean On Me".
MMG who is now reportedly suing for damages has reportedly asked Kendrick to desist from using the track assumed to be Wither's.
The question being asked is the possibility of a successful suit over a song which was released for free to the public.
