Kubo said that the programme was designed to provide monetary assistance to less privilege families, to woo them send their wards to school.

He said arrangements had been conclude to facilitate the implementation of the programme in the 27 local government councils of the state.

“The state government is to introduce a Conditional Cash Transfer to support girl child enrolment and retention in school.

“It is a deliberate attempt to address societal challenges and encourage growth of girl education in the state,” Kubo said.

Kubo added that plans were underway to enrol about 56, 000 children orphaned by Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

He disclosed that the state government had constructed three orphanage schools in Maiduguri and Baga.

The commissioner stressed that the government had adopted practical measures to address challenges affecting the basic and post basic level of education, occasioned by the insurgency.

“The state government is doing all it takes to ensure all school age children are back in classroom.

“We have constructed thousands of classrooms and rehabilitated schools vandalized by the insurgents.

“The state government paid its counter part funding to the  Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme. This will facilitate construction of about 2, 000 classrooms and establishment of additional 20 model schools,”.

Kubo further revealed that the state government was spending about N100 million monthly, on feeding of boarding school students.

He said more than N278 million was expended on payment of registration fees for indigents students who sat for 2016 Senior School Examination Certificate (SSCE) and National Examination Commission (NECO).

Also, the state government sponsored 70 female medical students abroad. The students have advanced to their third year of the study.
