English midfielder Jordan Henderson has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool as he is set to be named the club's new contract after Steven Gerrard's exit in the summer.
This will be a welcomed development for Liverpool who are currently battling to keep hold of their stars ahead of next season.
Reports have emerged linking Henderson and Raheem Sterling with a move away from the club, but the midfielder has put a rest to those rumours.
"It's brilliant news for me to commit my future to this football club - I really feel that it's a good time for us to look forward to the future, with the squad we've got, the manager, the size of the club and the fans we've got. I really think, over the next few years, we can challenge and start winning trophies," Henderson is quoted to say by Liverpool's official website.
"That's the next phase; we've improved massively over the last few years, and I think the next phase for us is to start challenging for titles and trophies as well."
Henderson has made 48 appearances in all competitions thus far this season and captained the side in the absence of Steven Gerrard.
He is also widely tipped to continue with the captaincy duties as Gerrard is set to join MLS club, LA Galaxy in the summer.
Liverpool will be hoping that Sterling follows in the footstep of Henderson.
