Jokic's Fiery Outburst: Serbian Star Yells at Teammates, Explains What Happened /VIDEO/
Nikola Jokic recorded his 197th career triple-double, and beyond his stellar play in the victory against Portland, he also had to assert his authority within the Denver Nuggets, taking on the role of coach and motivator in a rather intimidating fashion.
This occurred midway through the second quarter when the Sombor native became visibly frustrated, yelling at his teammates during a timeout to snap them back into focus. His impassioned plea paid off, as Denver immediately launched a 9-0 run coming out of the timeout.
He chastised them for their sluggish play, highlighting their late rotations on switches and how opposing players had too much time to set up their shots. It appears Jokic's pointed advice was crucial in sparking his team's significant turnaround.
"I don't know what to say, there was a lot going on, I don't remember what I said. Probably something about that, I know what you're referring to, but I don't recall," Jokic stated after the game when reporters questioned him about the incident.
One of the primary reasons Portland led for much of the game, even holding a 17-point advantage (109:92) at the start of the final quarter, was their exceptional three-point shooting, hitting 48% (25/52 from deep). In the first half, they were even more prolific, shooting 53% (16/30).
"I wouldn't say we were challenging them; rather, we weren't defending the three-point shot well enough," Jokic concluded.
