"I couldn't just go home and ignore the national team call-up – I'd be ashamed. I don't know if I truly deserve this honor," Jokic stated regarding his new role. "Many great names have captained before me. There are players on this team who are older and more experienced than I am, but the coach has placed his trust in me. I will do my utmost to wear the armband with dignity and show on the court what it truly means," the 31-year-old added.

The Denver center admitted he expects the captaincy to bring additional emotions.

"This will be the first time I experience this feeling. The emotions will certainly be more intense. You're representing your teammates, the people you work with every day, your city, and your family. It's a tremendous privilege and honor," Jokic further commented.
