Wizkid is making a strong case for 'Legend' status

What else do we need? When would the doubters come off the place of cynicism and give Wizkid the glaring credit he deserves?

Wizkid has always been one with the Midas touch. One classic album, a dope sophomore LP, a long list of hit singles, international collaborations, Billboard Hot 100 list, and now African expansion.

These are the achievements that Wizkid has under his belt to make many consider the tag – ‘Legend’. He isn’t one yet, but is it deniable that he is on his way, and he exhibits all the traits to make the cut.

Wizkid over the weekend announced his new record label, ‘Starboy Entertainment Worldwide’, a label which has new star acts from Ghana signed to it. The singer has all year been working closely with acts from Ghana, having been pictured with Efya in Los Angeles, USA in the past month. Many had anticipated a collaboration, but no one saw this coming. Wizkid’s new record label will have Ghanaian group R2bees, sultry songstress Efya, and raving Nigerian-born singer Mr Eazi. Omar Sterling (Paedae) will be the new president of the outfit, and they will seek to push through with new music, uniting West Africa in a synergy between two strong entertainment hubs.

Another level of achievement is also being incubated. Wizkid’s third album is almost completed, and with industry specialists who have had a chance to listen returning with glowing testimonies of it’s grandness. “It was a pleasure listening to Wizkid ‘s forthcoming album last night ….what a masterpiece! Beautiful collabos. It is definitely gonna open many doors for African artistes internationally……This album will achieved what no other African album has achieved before.” Said South African music maestro and industry titan, Oskido.

What makes a man a legend in pop culture? What can bring a man to the level of 2face Idibia and all his wondrous works? A legend is someone who is famous and admired for being extremely good at doing something. Wizkid is famous, check. He is admired, check, he is extremely good at music, check…but has he convinced enough to be conferred legendary status?

Not yet.

The singer is extremely adept at a lot of things, but his string of achievements are yet to convince totally. What he needs right now is to drop this uber-African album, one album to rule them all and unite the continent with pop music. The singer knows this, hence his numerous features, signings, and cosigns. With his newly signed acts, Wizkid’s synergy from various music climes, if done right, will bring forth a sound that traverses all the barriers that have stood in the way of a continental unifying sound. Wizkid will be at the helm of it all, pioneering, leading, dictating, and creating. That way he contributes something spectacular to the game, and leaves posterity a great legacy.
