Following his stunning third-round victory over the formidable Novak Djokovic in a five-set marathon, where he clawed back from two sets down, the 19-year-old sensation ousted Norway's Casper Ruud in four sets (7-5, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2) in Sunday's Round of 16 clash.

Fonseca is the first Brazilian to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam in men's singles since Gustavo Kuerten — who was in attendance, watching his compatriot live — also at Roland Garros, in 2004.

On Tuesday, the young Brazilian talent will aim to make further history when he faces 20-year-old Czech Jakub Mensík, currently ranked 27th in the world.
