The match in brief
Both teams started strongly, with Ruben Dias and Matheus Cunha firing wide from distance. City took control towards the end of the first half and scored just before halftime, courtesy of Kevin De Bruyne's precise finish.
Wolves pressed for an equaliser, but City regained dominance in the second half but couldn't seal the win with a second goal despite chances from Omar Marmoush and Mateo Kovacic. However, they held on to maximum points, as they kept Wolves out.
What Guardiola said
After the game, Manchester City's coach was asked about the Belgian who is set to leave the club at the end of the season. He had the following to say:
“Just thank you,” Pep said. “His contribution in the game against Crystal Palace when we were 2-0 down and he delivered and today the goal again. I'm happy that it is finishing that way and we have one more game in the Etihad."
Asked if De Bruyne could eventually extend his contract and stay at the club beyond this summer, he said, "I want the best for Kevin so it cannot be possible to have done these many years without him. He has been an incredible player but the situation is what it is.
"It's almost impossible to replace this kind of player. It is not just the performance; it is what he means to the heart for our fans for many, many years. The success we have belongs to the players."
Meanwhile, De Bruyne's future remains a matter in speculation. He was asked after the match and he said he had no clue what lies ahead for him. Pulse Sports reported that he is of keen interest to Chicago Fire in the MLS.
