This essentially erased a recent rally by the currency of the continent's second largest producer of the metal.
By 0800 GMT the kwacha weakened 1.1 percent to 10.9500 per dollar, pulling back from its firmest levels in four months. This comes as demand for copper continues to be pushed back by worries over the economic slowdown in China.
