Somalia's al Shabaab Islamist group rammed a suicide truck bomb into a military base of African AMISOM peacekeeping troops on Tuesday in the area of Beledweyne town, north of the capital, the militant group and a police officer said.

There were no immediate reports about casualties.

"A mujahid (fighter) driving a heavily loaded truck bomb rammed the Djibouti base in Baladweyne," Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab’s military operations spokesman, said, echoing comments made by a local police officer.

Djibouti has a contingent of troops with AMISOM.
