Man charged with theft of motorcycle

Ajose Jamiu, 27, of 36 Debola Street, Iyana-Iyesi, appeared at a Senior Magistrates’ Court, Ota, Ogun, on Tuesday charged with stealing a motorcycle valued N273, 000.

Jamiu is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 10 at Agboola Street, Itele Awori, Ota, Ogun.

Gbesi said the accused absconded with the motorcycle he collected from Adekunle Osho at Agboola Street, Itele Awori, on hire purchase.

“He failed to keep to the terms of paying in instalments to the complainant.’’

He said the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Banjo said the sureties must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

He also ordered that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and submit four recent passport photographs to the court with an evidence of tax payment from Ogun State Government.

He adjourned the case until July 10 for hearing.
