Just like other states in Nigeria, Lagos state has a huge increasing demand for housing.
Luckily for the date government, the interested parties(stakeholders) are offering a multi approach strategy designed to handle this particular problem.
These stakeholders include the Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Gbolahan Lawal, and former Chairman, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Brigadier-General Tunde Reis.
These two, private developers, government officials, mortgage bank operators and professionals met at a recent event to discuss the housing needs of Lagosians.
It was at this event that the multi approach strategy was devised.
According to Reis, the moderator of the event, the first step towards tackling housing needs was for the government to get the accurate data.
“People have been brandishing 17 million housing deficit in Nigeria for close to a decade when I was chairman of FHA. But the question is where is the data? Does it mean that no homes have been delivered to bridge the gap since then? This shows that we are just speculating and with that, we cannot get anywhere."
Do you think this multi approach strategy will solve the housing issues in Lagos state?
