British Columbia was earlier today, Friday hit by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake.

The quake reportedly struck at roughly 7am about 167 kilometers southeast of the village of Queen Charlotte.

AP reports that the National Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami is not expected to result.

No casualties were however recorded.

Meanwhile in a related development, the Calbuco volcano erupted in Chile covering several houses in towns in Chile and Argentina in volcanic ash.
