The Commissioner for Information, Dr Godwin Udeuhele, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Monday.

Udeuhele said that the move was in addition to the 2,000 primary school teachers employed at the beginning of 2017.

ā€œWithin this year, we have been able to recruit 2,000 teachers in public primary schools to boost teaching and learning and all of them are now teaching.

ā€œApproval has also been secured to recruit additional 2,000 volunteer teachers to fill the spaces created by retirees in our secondary schools,ā€ he said.

Udeuhele said that the state government through its policies has shown enough interest to re-energise the education sector in the state.

He said that the volunteer teachers would also replace ā€˜ghosts’ identified in the education sector.

The commissioner said that the state government was currently auditing staff of the public service with a view to identifying ghost workers.

He said that the Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi administration had been eventful and glorious.

ā€œIt has been almost two years of success and peaceful co-existence and propagation of the four-point agenda of the state government,ā€ he said.

He also said funds were released to College of Education Technical and College of Agriculture, Iwollo, for the similar purpose.
