In the last couple of years, terrorist attacks have been on the increase with countries in Europe and Africa targeted in deadly attacks.

In spite of these attacks however, there are still some destinations globally with a low terrorism risk. Daily Mail Travel, with input from the United Kingdom Foreign office, recently rounded up a list of potentially safe regions around the world that would make great summer getaways.

Check them out.

1. Iceland: This Nordic region has grown in popularity amongst tourists, attracting celebrities Beyonce and Jay Z, and most recently the Kardashian sisters and Kanye West. Boasting breath-taking sights, Iceland is blessed with stunning natural waterfalls, volcanoes and lagoons.

2. Liechtenstein: This is a doubly landlocked German-speaking microstate in Central Europe. It is a popular destination for winter sports owing to its terrain.

3. Malta: A Mediterranean region, the UK Foreign Office states that crime against tourists is rare 'although robberies, handbag snatching, pick-pocketing and theft from parked cars can occur'.

4. Poland: This East European country poses a low terrorist attack risk although street crime and robbery can be an issue.

5. Slovenia: Located in South Central Europe, this country shares borders with Austria and Hungary which are popular paths for migrants. Thus, all foreign nationals visiting Slovenia must register with the police within three days of arrival or risk paying a fine.
