Serbia suffered two defeats against Turkey in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers, with Turkey long considered one of Europe's top national teams. However, Croatia managed to overcome them with a 95:94 victory at the DBB Supercup, once again proving their readiness for the upcoming qualifiers and their firm intent to secure a spot at next year's World Cup in Qatar.

Even without Alperen Şengün, their star player, Turkey still fielded a formidable squad featuring Cedi Osman, Buğrahan Tuncer, Scottie Wilbekin, Furkan Korkmaz, and others. This lineup was widely favored over the 'Vatreni'. Yet, Ivica Zubac, Dario Šarić, Karlo Matković, and the phenomenal Mario Hezonja paid little heed to the predictions. Despite Turkey leading until the final quarter and holding a double-digit advantage at several points, Croatia refused to surrender. Ultimately, a clutch three-pointer from Hezonja in the dying seconds secured a well-deserved win.

Hezonja, visibly energized by his return to the NBA (signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers), delivered a masterful performance, scoring an incredible 37 points with an outstanding 11/17 shooting from the field (6/7 on two-pointers, 5/10 on three-pointers).

The icing on the cake was the aforementioned three-pointer in the final seconds, with Turkey leading 94:92.

Jalen Smith brilliantly initiated the fast break, assisting Hezonja, who then executed a step-back and drained the game-winning three-pointer.

Beyond his incredible scoring, Hezonja also contributed six rebounds and four assists. Dario Šarić supported him with 16 points and six rebounds. For the defeated Turkish side, Ömer Yurtseven and Scottie Wilbekin each scored 18 points.
