Heels and kills: The tale of a fashion empire (I)

I sat in the car, looking out the window as my driver sped through the the rain. The rolling droplets mocked the tears rolling down my face... Daring my tears to be as crystal as the rain.

What had happened? Where had I gone wrong? How bad had I sinned to deserve this? For even those who committed worse atrocities had not been served a punishment such as I had.

I held my son in my lap as the shattered pain spread through my chest. I tried to grasp for some sort of hope in my heart but I couldn’t find any. My heart was broken beyond belief and my eyes which were well puffed from crying, still poured tears.

A phone rang.

I looked at my phone but the screen was black, yet I kept hearing the ringing of a phone. I realized that it was “that phone”… the one that rang that day…. The one that cut through my sweet afternoon doze and made me curse quietly as I begged it not to rouse the sleeping child whose head rested between my breasts…the one that was persistent enough to make me get up from the living room chair, set my baby down gently and walk with hastened steps to my own doom.

… The one that now rang in my head.

That day a part of me died. The only part that ever truly lived. I, whose heart beat for no one… whose life revolved around myself…

That “I” had found another heart to beat with… another heart to beat for.. and now the heart that I lived for was no more.

I stared blankly as I pulled my baby closer to my chest and wrapped my Burberry cape poncho around us both as if to protect us from the cold life that lurked ahead.
