Greeks Reveal Details of Obradović's First Conversation with Nunn: "I Have Bad News For You..."
Kendrick Nunn possesses a significant basketball ego. He arrived at Panathinaikos in 2023 with the reputation of a player who once held a crucial role with the Miami Heat. In that same season, he led the Greens back to the European throne, quickly demonstrating that few players on the Old Continent are more lethal or skilled than him. One could argue that this colossal ego is, to some extent, justified.
Consequently, as soon as it was officially announced that Željko Obradović was returning to Panathinaikos, media outlets widely speculated whether the Serbian coach would manage to tame Nunn's unbridled ego or if he would prepare his release papers.
If Greek journalist Sotiris Vetakis is to be believed, Obradović recently had his first conversation with Nunn, and naturally, there's no talk of dismissal, as no one would be foolish enough to simply let go of one of Europe's best guards. According to Vetakis, Obradović told Nunn the following: "I have bad news for you. You'll have to pass the ball. But I also have good news: once you do it two or three times, they won't double-team you anymore. Generally, we'll work on your passing skills."
Nunn was reportedly thrilled with Obradović's approach, the meticulousness with which he had studied him, and his explanations and ideas.
Indeed, the constant double-teaming of Kendrick Nunn was one of the key factors in the EuroLeague playoff series between Valencia and Panathinaikos, which ultimately went to the Bats, leaving the Greens out of the Final Four.
Last season in the EuroLeague, Nunn averaged around 19 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.
