This write-up seeks to shed the spotlight on some of the finest Gospel songs to come out of Nigeria this year 2016.

The number of such soul-edifying songs are inexhaustible, hence we narrow it to five. Check out five songs by Nigerian artistes you should totally have on your Gospel playlist.

The former Midnight crew member takes his praises up in this worship number ‘Korede’. Riding on a mellow beat with heartfelt appreciation and confidence in God’s blessings and favour resting upon him, “ Life is beautiful, Jesu lo korede”, he sings. Melodious and infectious as it is, you wouldn’t get enough of this and it’s all for God.

Coming from an unlikely artiste, Terry G, but who are we to judge, the singer is all sober as he shares his thankful disposition to God in this praise number ‘Olorun tobi’. The street hop singer comes from a place of gratitude we cannot deny. It’s definitely a must listen and have on your playlist.

The late producer maestro has always shown his appreciation for God in his life. With songs such as ‘Jah is my light’ coming to mind. ‘Man of God’ is a recent one he released before passing away. The song re-affirms that the producer and singer’s acknowledgement of God’s supremacy in the affairs of man. It’s a good listen.

For the life of me, I don’t know why Frank decided to leave this song out of his “Frankincense” album. The song fulfils everything a gospel song should have, from the melody to lyrics and vocals. Frank clearly gives God all the glory and deserving praise with a funky groovy feel. With the chorus going like “ Throw your hands in the air, God over everything”, and a memorable line in the song  “It’s not about money, it’s not about the fame, it’s all about God who took away the shame”, this is bound to get God off his glorious throne in dancing.

Mike Abdul goes hard on this fast tempo worship tune, as he attempts it to make it somewhat danceable, and youthful, while still keeping the message to kneel down, watch and pray, and be a shining light to the world in a very vocal and expressive manner with the featured acts complementing his efforts. Listen up.
