The 22-year-old American, ranked second in the world and the reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year, has committed himself to the event, which will be staged at the Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong Course in January.

The Singapore Open has not been held since 2012 due to a lack of sponsorship but will be jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Japan Golf Tour Organization next year, with a minimum prize purse of US$1 million.

"Playing in the SMBC Singapore Open is something I'm really looking forward to," Spieth said in a statement on the tournament website.

"I'm very fortunate to play golf around the world and can't wait to visit Singapore for the first time."

Spieth, who won five times in 2015 and captured the FedEx Cup, will be joined by former Singapore Open winners Adam Scott, Ian Poulter and Matteo Manassero, as well as Angel Cabrera, at the re-launched event.
