Oriyomi could not emulate the exploits of her compatriots Odunuga and Agboegbulem who progressed to the semi-finals of the boxing event.

Oriyomi had to quit her quarterfinal 51kg bout with Carly McNaul of Northern Ireland after the first round which she had a score of (10-9, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9).

Odunuga progressed to the semifinal of the 60kg even after she defeated Canadian Caroline Veyre.

Odunuga was awarded superior points to their Canadian counterpart but emerged winner of the contest following a knockdown.

After the victory, Odunuga will now face Paige Murney of England in the semifinal.

Another Nigerian boxer Agboegbulem also progressed to the semifinal of the 75kg event.

Agboegbulem defeated Kenya’s Elizabeth Andiego to progress to the semifinal after she was awarded more points than her opponent after three rounds.

After her victory, Agboegbulem will now take on take on Australia’s Caitlin Parker in the semifinal.

Both Odunuga and Agboegbulem will take on their respective rivals on Friday, April 11 and by qualifying for the semifinal are already guaranteed a minimum of a bronze medal to add to Nigeria's medal haul at the gamesirrespective of the outcome of the bout.
