South Africa duo of Akani Simbine and Henricho Bruintjies finished first and second to win the Gold and Silver medals with a time of 10.03s and 10.17s respectively.

Controversy, however, is trailing the decision to give Jamaican athlete Yohan Blake the bronze medal after he was tied on the same time (10.19) with Nigeria’s Seye Ogunlewe.

Both runners finished with the same time but the decision to award Jamaica’s Blake the bronze medal was due to their reaction time which was different.

Both Ogunlewe and Blake crossed the line at almost exactly the same time but Blake’s reactions time was 0.139 while Ogunlewe’s reaction time was 0.143.

There have been instances in which athletes shared the medal after they crossed the line at the same time.

There have several reactions to Ogunlewe narrowly missing out on a medal, with supporters calling on the Commonwealth Games organizers and The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to rectify the decision.

If Ogunlewe had been awarded the bronze medal, it would have been Nigeria's second in the athletics event following Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.

Seye Ogunlewe and his sprint colleagues will now turn their attention to the 4 by 100 relays which will commence on Friday, April 13.
