Akufo-Addo expressed his sincere apology for the demolition during the phone conversation, according to Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President.

The demolition had threatened to spark a diplomatic row between the West African neighbours, with Ghana promising an investigation soon afterwards.

The Ghanaian leader told Buhari that he has directed a full scale investigation into the incident.

Some suspects have been arrested and will be arraigned in court, according to Shehu.
