The Olympic wrestling gold medalist attempted only one takedown, yet still unleashed a barrage of strikes in an entertaining, albeit brief, contest. Ultimately, Steveson found an opening with a left straight that rocked Ellison, and from there, the 26-year-old phenom simply continued to land blows until his opponent crumpled to the canvas.

The bout concluded at 2:31 of the first round, marking Steveson's fourth win in his young career and his first inside the UFC octagon.

"It's an honor to be here, thank you," Steveson declared after his victory. "It's fun. This is a big stage. Time will tell what's next for me. I'm a great athlete, a great person. Time will tell that story."

The heavyweights exchanged heavy blows from the outset, with Steveson employing a variety of kicks, including several to the knees, a technique he learned from his coach Jon Jones, before attempting his initial takedown. Ellison countered effectively with a guillotine choke attempt, forcing Steveson to temporarily abandon his wrestling.

Steveson connected with a brutal left straight and several knees to the body. Ellison responded with an elbow that made Steveson retreat, but the two-time NCAA wrestling champion immediately re-engaged. Steveson launched back into the attack with an explosive left straight that again rattled Ellison, and this time, he relentlessly followed up with consecutive strikes. Ellison finally collapsed to the mat, and Steveson landed one more devastating blow, officially ending the fight.

Steveson is one of the most decorated athletes to join the UFC ranks, arguably the best heavyweight talent since Jon Jones' arrival in the organization years ago. For Steveson, the sky's the limit, and he brings much-needed excitement to the heavyweight division.
