After a season empty-handed, Benfica is gearing up with experienced reinforcements for the new campaign. The club has already secured two Brazilian players and, by all indications, will also welcome Beatriz Santos (formerly of SC Braga).
In Gabiru's case, she personally confirmed her move to the Luz during an interview with Basticast, following two standout seasons with Batavo Mackenzie in Belo Horizonte.
"I wanted a new experience, to test a different market," stated the 32-year-old Brazilian athlete.
Standing at 1.75 meters, Gabiru is set to take on the outside hitter (Zone 4) position, promising to add experience and offensive prowess to Henrique Furtado's squad.
Another Brazilian joining the Lisbon club is Mara Leão. The 34-year-old, 1.92m tall middle blocker arrives from the Peruvian League, bringing valuable experience to bolster the defensive line and the 'Encarnados' block.
Meanwhile, Beatriz Santos continues to be linked with Benfica, although her transfer is not yet fully official. The 30-year-old Cape Verdean opposite hitter recently bid farewell to SC Braga with an emotional message posted on social media.
"After a year off, returning to play was a personal victory, because during that period of my life, I realized we must believe in our dreams and fight hard even when the urge is to give up. I learned to be strong. Thank you to SC Braga for the trust placed in me, and for everything the club provided me on this journey," she wrote.
