'In 2015, a 9.3% reduction was recorded in road traffic crashes', boss reports

The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, has announced a reduction in both road traffic crashes and fatalities.

Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), reports a 9.3% reduction for road traffic crashes and 1.4% in the number of fatalities recorded for 2015.

He made this revelation during a press conference in Abuja, yesterday (January 19th).

While stating some of the commission's main goals for 2016; improve fleet operations and sustainable stakeholders’ consultation, Oyeyemi disclosed data for last year.

439 crashes were recorded with 3,113 fatalities.
1,207 people were rescued by personnel of the corps.
25,961 persons were arrested for 28,631 offences, 54% were speed-related violations while dangerous driving made up for 17%.

On the 1st April, 2016 deadline for the installation of speed limiting devices, Oyeyemi said President Muhammadu Buhari's approval means the date will not be changed.
