Ana Ivanovic eases into Roland Garros semi-finals
In her first Roland Garros quarter-final since 2008's winning run, Ana Ivanovic met little resistance during Tuesday's straight-sets victory over Elina Svitolina.
By contrast, the Ukrainian was appearing in her first last-eight clash at the French Open and struggled to compete - going down 6-3 6-2 after just 77 minutes on court.
Svitolina has still only taken one set off Ivanovic, having now lost all seven meetings against the seventh seed, who hit 37 winners in a comfortable victory.
Serbian Ivanovic moved into an early break thanks to two angled forehands but a double-fault in the third offered Svitolina a way back into the set.
However, Ivanovic edged a lengthy rally in the fourth to regain her stranglehold before holding for the set courtesy of a delightful backhand slice on the penultimate point.
Despite giving those on Chatrier a scare when she took a tumble early in the second set, Ivanovic showed no signs of discomfort in moving 2-0 up.
Ivanovic proved imperious on her serve as Svitolina struggled to show the form that enabled her to see off Alize Cornet in the previous round.
While Svitolina saved double match point, Ivanovic continued to move her opponent around the court at will and sealed victory with a calm forehand.
Ivanovic now looks ahead to her first grand slam semi since the French Open in 2008 - having lost quarters at the US and Australian Opens since that victory.
