Alex Iwobi has been the standout player for Everton this season, helping Frank Lampard's side to a five-game unbeaten run

Super Eagles midfielder has continued to earn rave reviews from coaches, fans, and former football stars alike as the Everton player's resurgence continues apace.

The latest to commend the Nigerian international's performance is 1998 FIFA World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf, who hailed Iwobi after their Liverpool clash.

The Super Eagles midfielder was again instrumental for Everton, helping the Toffees pick up an impressive 0-0 draw against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.

Iwobi started in a midfield three alongside new signing Amadou Onana and Tom Davies as the Frank Lampard-led side neutralised Liverpool's attacking routes and passes.

Of the Everton trio, Leboeuf singled out Iwobi for praise, highlighting the 26-year-old's link-up play with the Everton attackers as a strong suit Iwobi displayed during the match.

In Leboeuf's coverage for ESPN as reported by Punch, the former French international enthused: "I have to say I have to give credit to Everton and Iwobi. What I saw from Iwobi in the middle of the park was absolutely exceptional.

"That guy was played in another position but he was still outstanding and exceptional with the other three guys – (Demarai) Gray, (Anthony) Gordon and Maupay – in front of him."

The former Chelsea centre-back also praised Everton for taking the game to Liverpool, noting that Lampard's men made the game difficult for the 2020 English champions.

“They gave a hard time to Liverpool’s three defenders. It was a hard game for Liverpool because they fought so hard to stay in the game," Leboeuf said.

Everton are on a five-game unbeaten run (four draws, one win) after losing their first two league matches to Chelsea and Aston Villa.

The Toffees will hope to maintain their run when they meet league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, September 11.
