The 23-year-old Argentinian initially shared news of the theft via an Instagram post on August 6th, but has now revealed more details about the unfortunate experience.

In an interview with ESPN, Colapinto explained that his personal car was broken into while he was having dinner in Milan.

“They stole everything,” he said. “I wish they had only taken the mate (an Argentinian drink). Everything. My wallet, my passport. All my clothes. A complete disaster. I was left with only the clothes on my back. In Milan.”
“I left everything in the car. I went to eat at an Italian restaurant that I really like. The best carbonara. And then, when I came back, there was nothing inside. Nothing.”

After reporting the incident to local authorities, Colapinto returned to his home in Monaco. Remarkably, the situation was partially resolved shortly after his arrival.

“We filed a report with the police,” he added. “We went back to Monaco. I arrive in Monaco and I get a call. An Italian number appears on the phone. It was the police calling: ‘We found your wallet with your documents.’ I went back to Milan. We picked up everything. I drove 1200 kilometers in one day. I’ve never spent so much money on gas in my life.”
“I don’t know what they did with the mate and the thermos. Messi’s thermos. The mate tasted incredible. That was the worst day of my life. A complete tragedy!” the driver concluded with a laugh.

Colapinto currently sits 12th in the drivers' championship standings with 19 points.
