Arrest documentation indicates he faces charges of making terroristic threats, first-degree false imprisonment, and attempted first-degree domestic assault. Details surrounding the arrest and the circumstances leading to it are not yet known. In Nebraska, domestic assault resulting in serious bodily injury is classified as a Class 2 felony, punishable by up to 50 years in prison.

The charges for terroristic threats and first-degree false imprisonment are Class 3A felonies. These carry potential penalties of up to three years in prison, an additional 18 months of post-release supervision, and a fine of up to $10,000.

Smith, a former UFC light heavyweight title challenger, retired last year after UFC Kansas City, where he suffered a knockout loss to Zhang Mingyang.

Earlier this year, he came out of retirement to compete in Jorge Masvidal's Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA event in April, where he defeated Chase Sherman via submission.
