The arm around her shoulder only made her weep some more.

The last time she had been in this hospital, she was in tears, but unlike now, there had been no one to comfort her.

She had been in a room, with needles stuck in her body when the doctor delivered the news that she had lost her baby.  She wept till she was drained of energy.

Her husband had sat in a seat by her bedside, not once offering her a word of comfort let alone a comforting touch.

The same man who had beaten her till she fainted, who was the reason she was lying in a hospital bed with an empty womb told her brusquely “Stop crying. Pull yourself together so you can be discharged soon. This hospital is costing me a lot”.

Without a backward glance, he had gotten up and left her alone in the room.

Now she was back at the hospital, shedding tears for him, hoping he could pull through. The arm on her shoulder tightened and gave her a squeeze. She did not feel bad about it, it was a welcoming and comforting touch.
