Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez tied the knot in an intimate ceremony held in the living room of their new summer home in Cascais, Portugal. Contrary to rumors of a lavish celebration with celebrity guests like Rio Ferdinand and Rihanna, the couple, who boast over 750 million Instagram followers combined, opted for a private event to mark the 10th anniversary of their first meeting.
The chosen date for the ceremony was August 11th, a symbolic day marking a decade since their initial encounter at a Gucci store in Madrid. "In the future, we'll have a big wedding so we can celebrate with family and friends," Georgina explained. However, due to a "crazy year" filled with "work commitments, competitions, and children," the couple didn't want to let the significant date pass unacknowledged.
The decision for a home-based celebration was deliberate. "When I was little, I dreamed of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds. And now I say: no. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home," Georgina reflected. "Castles, houses, islands, horses, cars: we have all of that at our fingertips every day. But something intimate is more unusual for us."
The ceremony took place in their living room, a location holding special significance for the couple. "We chose to do it in the living room of our home here, where we have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we live the reality of our lives," Georgina stated. "Thirty years from now, I want the children to think: 'Something wonderful happened at this table — our parents' wedding vows.'"
Cristiano Ronaldo, always ready with a humorous remark, added: "It probably won't be the same table. We might change the decor."
Despite the ceremony's simplicity, diamonds were certainly not absent. Georgina, a model and founder of the Mimoa sportswear line, wore an oval-cut diamond engagement ring, complemented by a Chopard Garden of Kalahari necklace featuring a 50-carat diamond. For the occasion, and given the origin of their romance, both wore Gucci.
The couple's story began in August 2016. Cristiano Ronaldo, then 31, entered the Gucci store on Calle Serrano in Madrid with his son, Cristiano Jr. Georgina, then 22, was working as a sales assistant, covering a colleague's shift. "It's destiny," Georgina commented on the coincidence.
Cristiano recalled the moment: "I had my back to her, and then I turned around and saw her. Our eyes met, and from that moment, it was..." Georgina completed: "It was a dream." The Portuguese footballer agreed: "Yes, a dream. I know she is the love of my life, and I think I am — I think she thinks I am the love of her life."
The couple has a large family. After the birth of twins Eva and Mateo and Alana in 2017, they welcomed another set of twins, Bella and Ángel, in 2022, though only Bella survived. Together with Cristiano Jr., they form the family core. "The children know that our time belongs to them," Georgina said, emphasizing that the children were the "protagonists" of their wedding day, "as they are in all our days."
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez married in an intimate ceremony, followed by a special blessing at the Sanctuary of Fátima. The couple opted for a family event, away from the spotlight, with only their closest relatives present, culminating in a moment Georgina described as "exactly as I imagined it." The bride confessed she couldn't "hold back tears" on a day that was "intimate, full of love, and with our family in the starring role."
For the occasion, the couple and their children were impeccably dressed in Gucci creations. Georgina wore a white silk faille skirt suit with matching satin shoes, while Cristiano Ronaldo donned a custom-made light beige cotton suit. Demna, the brand's artistic director, found it "incredibly special to dress Georgina and Cristiano for this moment," highlighting the romanticism of the couple's love story, which began in a Gucci store in Madrid. "There's something very romantic about it — a beautiful full circle, almost like a modern fairy tale," he stated.
Georgina explained the choice of designer, noting that he understood her vision for a day they wanted to be simple. "He wasn't going to mask us," she said, adding: "I didn't want us to enter a day that was so simple for us in disguises."
After the ceremony, the family traveled to the Sanctuary of Fátima, an hour away, to receive a blessing in a small, reserved chapel. Cristiano Ronaldo justified the need for privacy, explaining that he tends to "avoid places where there are crowds" to escape fan attention. The experience in Fátima was particularly striking for Georgina, who, despite having visited the site before, had never been to the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows. "I felt a peace and energy that are very difficult to describe," she shared. "I didn't need anything else: my husband, my children, our home, our faith, and our love."
The wedding photography was handled by Juergen Teller, known for his artistic images. The choice, according to Georgina, was driven by the desire to create something unique. "His photographs are art. I didn't want the typical boring family album. I wanted an artistic album that would last forever," she clarified.
Despite the marriage, the couple doesn't believe their dynamic will change. However, Cristiano Ronaldo admits that "just the fact that we are husband and wife — we enter another league." The player, currently with a Saudi Arabian club, did not have a honeymoon, as he had to return to Riyadh the next day for the start of the season on August 15th. "Every day is a honeymoon," the forward affirmed.
Looking to the future, Ronaldo is contemplating the end of his career, stating that "this is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy." The player plans to dedicate more time to his family and other activities. "My whole future is mapped out. I have so many things to keep me busy that it's hard to name just one. Because football can leave a big void, and you need to fill your time in various ways, not just one. And also to have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really enjoy, and continue to enjoy what I've earned — what we've earned. Because, after all, it's been 25 years of great sacrifice."
As for the possibility of expanding their family, the couple hasn't closed the door. "Never say never," Cristiano said. Georgina added: "Another baby now would be overcrowding the house. But when the youngest are 15 or 16, we'll still be young, so why not? It's true that I can't imagine myself without young children, so we'll see."
Reflecting on their wedding day, Cristiano Ronaldo initially described it as "a normal day," but quickly corrected himself, looking at Georgina: "It will be a special day, spent in a normal way."
