FIFA members in January voted to have the FIFA World Cup expanded to 48 teams.

With the expansion, Africa have been pushing for an increase of five to nine spots which was ratified at the ongoing FIFA Congress going on in Bahrain.

After the nine countries, Africa could have one more country at the World Cup which will make it 10 spots.

How is this possible?

So with the new format, two spots will be decided by a six-team playoff. A tenth African team will take part in this playoff.

If that African country scale through the playoff and qualify, then Africa will have 10 teams in the FIFA World Cup.

With the expansion, Europe will have 16 teams, an increase from 13 and eight for Asia which currently have 4.5 spots.

North and Central America will have six direct slots, increased from 3.5, six also for South America which have 4.5 spots.

Oceania will have one direct slot, an increase from 0.5 while the final two spots will be decided by the six-team play-off.
