FIFA has announced the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against the Argentine Football Association. This comes after players displayed a political banner related to the Malvinas Islands following their 2-1 victory over England in the semifinals. Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina, and others are also under investigation by the organization.

Initially, FIFA opted to wait until after the semifinal clash between Argentina and England, where Lionel Scaloni's players unfurled a banner asserting Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands. However, on Tuesday, the global governing body officially launched disciplinary action against the Argentine Football Association. Several breaches of FIFA's disciplinary code were cited, including "using a sporting event as a platform for demonstrations of a non-sporting nature."

Following Argentina's 2-1 win in Atlanta, some of Lionel Messi's teammates were seen with a banner that read, "The Malvinas Islands are Argentine." FIFA stated that "the use of a sporting event for demonstrations of a non-sporting nature constitutes a potential violation of the disciplinary code."

This isn't the first such incident involving the "Gauchos." In 2014, FIFA fined Argentina approximately 23,000 euros for a similar banner displayed by players before a friendly match against Slovenia.

Meanwhile, several Argentine players are facing disciplinary proceedings on various charges following the brawl at the end of the World Cup final against Spain, which they lost 1-0 after extra time.

Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina are facing three charges of "aggression," while Thiago Almada and Roberto Ayala, an official from the "Albiceleste" staff, are accused of "unsporting conduct." Spain's Gavi could also face sanctions on similar grounds.
