Enyimba chief denies quitting People’s Elephant

Chairman of the executive committee of Enyimba Football Club of Aba, Felix Ayansi-Agwu has denied quitting his post at the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions.

Agwu was quoted by several news platform on Sunday, November 16 that he has quit the Aba based side due to pressure from inside the club.

In a chat with Pulse Sports however, Agwu who doubles as the Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) denied those reports, claiming that he was misquoted.

“I still remain chairman of the club and I don’t plan to resign,” Agwu reiterated.

“What I said was that I’d resign if I’m not given enabling environment to run the club.”

He also confirmed that he has been under intense pressure at the club but will only leave when the time is right.

Agwu was appointed chairman of Enyimba in 1999 then Governor of Abia State Orji Uzor Kalu in a bid to make the club one of the best in Africa.

The appointment paid off as Agwu led the club to its most successful era.

As chairman of the club, Agwu led Enyimba to first ever league title in 2001. They repeated the feat te next year making them the first club to win the Nigerian league back to back.

Under Aguw, Enyimba famously won the CAF Champions League in 2003, becoming the very first Nigerian football club to do so after 39 years.
